There is something special about Málaga.

Stop two of our Málaga Field Trip: Jorge Rando Museum

A short walk into the old town brought us to a very different space. Tucked inside the historic Monastery of Mercy, the Jorge Rando Museum is Spain’s first and only museum dedicated entirely to Expressionism and Neo-Expressionism.

But this is not your typical museum.

Here, the workshops stay open all day. Artists paint in the Atelier, and visitors are encouraged to watch the creative process unfold. It is a living, breathing space where art is not just displayed—it is made.

We wandered through galleries celebrating the work of Málaga-born painter Jorge Rando, then stepped outside into a serene inner courtyard. At its centre? A 140-year-old mandarin tree, planted by the monastery’s founder. A quiet moment of peace, right in the heart of the city.

Two museums.

Two very different experiences.

One shared feeling: inspiration.

We love our neighbour city of Málaga. And yes, we will be back soon.
