Beatrice Celestin

Nationality: Haitian

Graduated Graphic Designer
at the Marbella Design Academy

Graduated from the Marbella Design Academy- year: 2007

Personal introduction:

"Design is the method of putting form and content together. Design, just as art, has multiple definitions; there is no single definition. Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that's why it is so complicated."
by Paul Rand

I'm Beatrice Celestin, but as the years are passing by people will know me more and more by the name of twixC (pronounced twixy). Let me start by telling you a short version of how twixC became my name. When I was a teenager around the age of 14, a friend of mine (Nancy F.) started calling me Twix. The reason was simple. Everyone called me Béa or Bébé. I was not too fond of Bébé and I simply did not mind Béa. Nancy decided that I needed an original name, therefore she dropped the first part of my name and played with the end of my name "trice". From playing with trice, she ended up calling me like one of my favorite chocolate TWIX.
During the years to come, close friends and family called me Twix, my cousin called me Trix (like the cereal) and some other friends call me Twixy. And as I started drawing and designing, I would always sign it "Twix". I got attached to Twix which became my artist name. As i was becoming a graphic Designer, thinking about my identity in the design world and also branding, I figured Twix would not be appropriate for me because it is already the brand of a chocolate. Therefore I decided to go for Twixy written "twixC", "C" standing for my last name "Celestin". And to add a twist to it, the "t" is in small caps to be give it a more friendly appeal and the C in big caps to emphasize on an exclamation and to play with the contrast of a normal way of writing a name with the big cap at the beginning.

I was born and raised in Haiti. I attended a French system school in which I graduated in 1999 the class of Philosophy with a Baccalaureat ES (Economics). My primary choice of study was Interior Design, however the college that I was attending in Boston didn't have the interior design course and instead of looking for another school to do it, I decided to go for the program in Graphic Design and Visual Communications. I loved it but for some unfortunate reasons, I had to drop out and go back home to work. I spent 3 years in Haiti, assistant Graphic Designers in their tasks and focusing on going back to school to finish my degree. Finally in September 2005, I attended the Marbella Design Academy to finish my studies in Graphic Design. It was an experience that I will never forget from the friends from all over the globe, to the teachers etc...

I fell in love with Graphic Design. I'm very abstract of an artist and designer... I love to play with shapes (specially organic ones). I have a deep fondness for Branding and identity studies.
Now, I live in New York City, the city that never sleeps and where Graphic Design is just IN YOUR FACE. I'm in the city of my TWO all-time favorite Graphic Designers: Milton Glaser & Paul Rand. The challenge that I face in New York City mostly is the very FAST pace of the life over there. Everything is at 500 miles/hour and if you can't keep up, You will remain at the bottom of the pit... But like the New Yorkers will tell you "If you can make it in N.Y, You can make it everywhere" which I think is so true and it's a challenge I am willing to take. I have always had a discipline in my line of Work and New York is getting me even more disciplined to keep myself at the level to be seen. I have launch my website www.twixCism.com and started building my brand identity to the world. I have clients for which I work in Madrid, Dominican Republic, France, Haiti and I'm building my Network here in N.Y... I am looking forwards to start my own official business in Fall 2008.

THEREFORE, let me re-introduce myself, I'm twixC, a passionate Graphic Designer and Artist.
So, what is the twixCism?
twixCism is simply my point of view in the design world. twixCism is a design concept movement by twixC.
twixCism is in process mode to become a brand to be born in NYC.
twixCism will cover all works done by twixC: Graphic Design, Photography, Paintings, Essays, Poetry, Illustrations, Graphics on Clothing, Graphics in motion and awareness campaigns etc...
In the Graphic Design world, my particular favorite branch is Branding, specially in the Fashion, Entertainment, music and cultural industries which are the directions where I am pushing twixCism.
