Interior Design 1st Year
Full Course: 165 Days – (approximately 1600 hours) - 60 CP (ECTS)
Level 1: Design Fundamentals, Creative Expression, Analytical and investigative Study
During the first year of the course the student will gain a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of the trade, evaluating materials and processes as well as basic principles and history of Interior Design. Exploration and application of this theory will be guided through projects that will map the use of acquired skills in their application in industrial scenarios.
INITIATION TO INTERIOR DESIGN (18 Credits ECTS)
Fundamentals of Interior Design:
Introduction to the processes and materials to be used in the field of Interior Design.
History of Interior Design:
Evaluation of the evolution of Interior Design and environmental influx through History.
Basic Building Construction: Introduction to the planning procedures implicit in the development of an Interior Design Project within the context of a Construction Site.
GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION (8 Credits ECTS)
Freehand Drawing: Techniques of manual Graphic representation. Theories of Color, materials, composition, etc.
Photography: Introductory course covering basic techniques and addressing optical creativity from a Design viewpoint.
Illustrator: Industry-Standard Software. Basic tools and processes. Relationship with manual Freehand Representation.
Photoshop: Introduction to the most popular of Design Software. Applications to Photography.
INTERIOR DESIGN RESOURCES (7 Credits ECTS)
Projection Drawing: Study of the procedures to be employed and data to be managed in the conceptual presentation of an Interior Design Project.
AutoCAD: Introduction to this software used in the elaboration of technical representation of Interior Design Projects.
3D Studio MAX: Introduction to the use of this software fundamental in the development of three-dimensional representation of Interior Design Projects.
PROJECTS (27 Credits ECTS)
Product and Furniture Design: Analysis and study of the implementation of Furniture and other three-dimensional objects to be used in an Interior Design Project. Creation of three-dimensional figures to be used in Design Projects.
Term Projects: Use of combined modular skills in simulated Industry scenarios. To include lectures, one-on-one Teacher guidance and practical application of acquired resources.
Group Project: Evaluation of acquired practical capacity in combination with Teamwork, Communicational and Presentational skills.
Final Project: Hands-on application of the capacities acquired throughout the full Second Year of Graphic Design.
Interior Design 2nd Year
Full Course: 170 Days – (approximately 1750 hours) - 60 CP (ECTS)
Level 2: Technical skills development, Establishing Style and Practice.
During the second year students will develop a deeper knowledge of the industry with projects produced required to be at industry standard specifications.
Technical Requirements of Projects and application of software are evolved to an advanced level and the course will terminate with an industry-standard project.
EVOLUTION OF INTERIOR DESIGN (6 Credits ECTS)
History of Architecture and Environmental Influence: Study of the progressive style evolution of Architecture through the ages, and the elements that conditioned it.
GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION (15 Credits ECTS)
Freehand Drawing 2: Advanced level techniques of manual Graphic representation. Theories of color, materials, composition, etc.
Photography 2: Study in techniques for photographic composition to reflect an efficient depiction of Interior Design spaces.
Photoshop 2: Professional exploration of techniques and tools to be used in combination with photography for depiction of Interior Design spaces.
Indesign: Introduction of this software as a formidable edition tool combines Photoshop and Illustrator for the presentation of Interior Design projects.
Technical Drawing: AutoCAD 2: Extensive specialization and expanded toolbox of this software program.
Illustrator 2: Further specialization in the use of this software in combination with other software’s of the trade.
SPATIAL EXPRESSION (6 Credits ECTS)
Three-dimensional Representation: Introduction of skills to use in the elaboration and design of physical representation samples of Interior Design Projects.
3D Studio MAX 2: Specialization in the professional use of this software for three-dimensional graphic representation of Interior Design Projects.
TECHNOLOGY AND CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS (15 Credits ECTS)
Technology and Construction: Analysis of material, tools and machinery and their application, as well as the evaluation of structures and structural elements.
Measuring, Quotation and Project Planning: Introduction to the planning and budgeting procedures implicit to the development of an Interior Design Project within the context of a Construction Site.
Product and Furniture Design: Further specialization in the design elaboration of three-dimensional pieces.
PROJECTS (18 Credits ECTS)
Term Projects: Use of combined modular skills in simulated Industry scenarios. To include lectures, one-on-one Teacher guidance and practical application of acquired resources.
Final Project: Hands-on application of the capacities acquired throughout the full Second Year of Interior Design.
Interior Design 3rd Year
Full Course: 170Days – (approximately 1800 hours) - 60 CP (ECTS)
Level 3 Resolution of practice, management, vocational orientation and integration into professional Practice.
The final year of the programme provides a platform from which students are able to fully integrate and apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired during years 1 + 2 through to self-directed projects.
There is emphasis on research, critical thinking, and the exploration and production of complex creative work for the purpose of building a graduate portfolio.
Orientation on professional options and opportunities are explored, towards establishing practice.
PAST AND FUTURE OF INTERIOR DESIGN (12 Credits ECTS)
History of Interior Design: In depth study of the progressive style evolution of Interior Design through the ages, and the elements that conditioned the profession.
Sustainability and Ethics in Interior Design: Theory and application of contemporary philosophy of environmental responsibility on the development of Interior Design projects. Analysis of the code of ethics of a professional designer.
TECHNOLOGY AND CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS (12 Credits ECTS)
Project Management Theory: Analysis of planning, organizing, securing and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of interior design project.
Rehabilitation and Reforms: Exploration of the restructuring procedures applied to the reform of existing designed spaces.
Product and Furniture Design: In depth specialization in practical application of the design techniques for three-dimensional pieces.
3D Studio MAX 3: Extensive specialization and expanded toolbox of this software program for three-dimensional representation.
EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL ORIENTATION (18 Credits ECTS)
Vocational Orientation: Analysis and identification of professional potential for placement in the industry work field, as well as an evaluation of the ethics and applied marketing of the field.
Group Project: Evaluation of acquired practical capacity in combination with Teamwork, Communicational and Presentational skills and their application in a professional scenario.
Landscaping: An exploration of the layout of exterior spaces that compliment many Interior Design projects.
Exhibit Design: An evaluation of the application of Interior Design techniques upon exhibit layouts.
Set Design: An introduction to the application of Interior Design abilities to the design of show spaces and stage backdrops.
Work Experience: Practical opportunity for hands-on experience in a real world work environment.
