Graphic Design 1st Year
Full Course: 165 Days – (approximately 1600 hours) - 60 CP (ECTS)
Level 1: Design Fundamentals, Creative Expression
During the first year of the course the student will gain a comprehensive introduction to the basic principles and history of design. Exploration and application of this theory will be guided during a series of project briefs utilizing a hands-on approach.
Traditional graphical methods such as Freehand Drawing & Photography will be introduced alongside incorporation of modern software techniques, allowing for unlimited creative expression.
INITIATION TO GRAPHIC DESIGN (14 Credits ECTS)
Fundamentals of Graphic Design
Introduction to the basic skills and knowledge of the Graphic Design world. Techniques and Procedures of the Profession.
History of Graphic Design
Analysis of the evolution of Graphic Design through the ages. Study of the industrial progress of the trade.
Brand Design
Evaluation of systems of projection of Corporate Image application of design techniques in commercial scenarios.
GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION (6 Credits ECTS)
Freehand Drawing
Techniques of manual graphic representation. Theories of color, materials, composition, etc.
Photography
Introductory course covering basic techniques and addressing optical creativity from a Design viewpoint.
Typography
Introductory course dedicated to the evaluation of printing systems and in depth analysis of the relationship between Type and Meaning.
COMPUTER GRAPHICS (6 Credits ECTS)
Illustrator
Industry-standard software. Basic tools and processes. Relationship with manual Freehand representation.
Indesign
Study of state-of-the-art software to combine techniques of Illustrator and Photoshop in edition scenarios.
Photoshop
Introduction to the most popular of Design software. Applications to Photography.
ONLINE COMPUTER SKILLS (4 Credits ECTS)
Flash
Introduction to the most efficient and popular of Internet software. Hands-on use in implementation of web pages.
Dreamweaver
HTML and CSS Programming for Internet applications. Relationship to Flash and hands-on use of the combined programs.
PROJECTS (30 Credits ECTS)
Term Projects
Use of combined modular skills in real-world scenarios. To include lectures, one on one teacher guidance and practical application of resources acquired through each term.
Group Project
Evaluation of acquired practical capacity in combination with teamwork, communicational and presentational skills
Final Project
Hands-on application of the capacities acquired throughout the full first year of Graphic Design.
Graphic Design 2nd Year
Full Course: 170 Days – (Approximately 1750 hours) – 60 CP (ECTS)
Level 2: Establishment of a signature style, Technical skills development
During the second year students will develop a deeper knowledge of the industry with projects produced required to be at industry standard specifications.
Technical Requirements of Projects and application of software are evolved to an advanced level and the course will terminate with an industry standard project in a real client situation.
HISTORY OF THE GRAPHIC IMAGE (9 Credits ECTS)
Graphic Evolution
Analysis of the evolution of graphic representation and the progressive application within different industrial scenarios.
Typography 2: Further study of elements of Type and its evolution. Advanced analysis of functions within professional scenarios.
GRAPHIC EXPRESSION TECHNIQUES (8 Credits ECTS)
Graphic Techniques: Evaluation of the multiple techniques of graphic representation and their application to different design situations.
Freehand 2: Application of 1st year skills and techniques to profession-specific challenges.
Illustrator 2: Further exploration of the hands-on use of this software. Study of the use of advanced features of the software in design situations.
Indesign 2: Advanced techniques in multi-software formats to conform to industrial printing requisites.
THEORY & TECHNIQUES OF PUBLICITY (10 Credits ECTS)
Theory of Publicity: Study of the Industry and its relationship with Graphic Design. Analysis of the philosophy of public communication.
Flash 2 - Animations: The use of this software applied to movement for creation of interactive web or video animation.
Dreamweaver 2: Advanced techniques used for the implementation of web design.
PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE (9 Credits ECTS)
Photography 2: In depth exploration of the techniques and processes of digital photography. Rationale of application within Design development.
Photoshop 2: Further exploration of work tools and advanced color correction. Interrelationship of this software with web design as well as Photography
Audiovisual Media: Introduction to video production and exploration of its potential applied to the publicity industry.
PROJECTS (24 Credits ECTS)
Term Projects: Use of combined modular skills in simulated Industry scenarios. To include lectures, one-on-one Teacher guidance and practical application of acquired resources.
FINAL PROJECT: Hands-on application of the capacities acquired throughout the full second year of Graphic Design.
Graphic Design 3rd Year
Full Course: 170 Days – (Approximately 1800 hours) – 60 CP (ECTS)
Level 3 Resolution of practice, management, vocational orientation, self directed study.
The final year of the programme provides a platform from which students are able to fully integrate and apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired during years 1 + 2 through to self-directed projects.
There is emphasis on research, critical thinking, and the exploration and production of complex creative work for the purpose of building a graduate portfolio.
COMPUTOR TUITION (10 Credits ECTS)
Illustrator 3: Specialization in the professional application of the top techniques of this software.
Indesign 3: The application of professional level techniques in edition, combining other software skills.
Flash 3: Specialization in the hands-on use of this software. Study of the use of advanced features of the software in online and offline design situations.
Dreamweaver 3: Hands-on professional enablement in the use of this software in industrial applications.
INDUSTRIAL GRAPHIC TECHNIQUES (6 Credits ECTS)
Analysis and identification of the industrial processes and procedures of the relationship between the Graphic Designer and Printing.
PUBLICITY DESIGN TOOLS (10 Credits ECTS)
Typography 3: In depth command of the elements and applications of Type on advanced design challenges.
Technical Drawing: Study of the techniques of manual technical graphic representation.
Three Dimensional Design: The application of Design techniques on the production of three-dimensional objects. Packaging.
Audiovisual Media 2: The further practice of the necessary skills for the production of video and its appropriate application to professional situations.
EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL ORIENTATION (14 Credits ECTS)
Vocational Orientation: Analysis of the work field and professional opportunities in the graphic design industry.
Group Project: Evaluation of acquired practical capacity in combination with Teamwork, Communicational and Presentational skills and their application in a professional scenario.
Work Experience: Opportunity for real world experience in the professional work field.
